Abstract The aim of the present study was to isolate different bacterial strains, from an aquatic medium polluted with heavy metals, that have high efficiency of metal uptake. The study was carried out on Lake Mariut one of the most polluted aquatic system with heavy metals. Two main sites of the Lake; El-Qalaa drain (site Q), and the central part (Site C) were used for sampling. The results of this study revealed the following: * 1- The average biomass in both sites was determined and found to be 36.7 mg/1 at site Q while it was 30.5 mg/L at site C. 2- The concentration of some heavy metals in the ’study area under investigation was measured. The averages of Fe, Mn, Pb, Zn, Co, Cu, Cd were determined at site Q and found to be (215, 120, 77, 74, 34, 17, 5) X 10-- ppm, respectively. The averages of same metals at site C were 144, 64, 107, 65, 48, 21, 8 X 10-- ppm, respectively. 3- The total viable count in both sites was determined •~i and the average during the study period was 46 X 10 i-7 cells/ml at site Q, while it was 63 X 10 ’ cells/ml at site C. • |
